Academic | Performer | Musician | Public Speaker | War Veteran
Over the past decade I have been lucky enough to be involved in several powerful productions. I have performed in the play Minefield (Campo Minado), and the film Theatre of War directed by Lola Arias. I have directed the short documentary film What is a Veteran: Beyond the Cliché. I have written, edited, and produced a rock video called the War Song performed in Minefield I have also appeared in two Argentine films: El Camino del Encuentro (The Path of Encounter) and 40 Años Después (Falklands 40 Years), each offering a unique lens on reconciliation and remembrance. I also appeared on the NAAFI Break Podcast and Worn the T Shirt pod cast. I am currently part of the Our Space | Theatre Royal Plymouth with other members of the veteran community.
Minefield/Campo Minado
Minefield/Campo Minado is an internationally acclaimed play that brings together veterans from Argentina, Britain, and Nepal to explore their shared Falklands/Malvinas War experiences through memory, music, film, and wartime artefacts. You can watch three scenes Joining up, Mount Harriet and Reflection performed in Edinburgh.
Theatre Of War
Theatre of War is a film with the six members of the Minefield cast. The film reimagines the Falklands/Malvinas conflict through artistic collaboration between former enemies. It blurs the line between documentary and performance. Theatre of War powerfully invites audiences into the emotional archaeology of war.
What is a Veteran: Beyond the Cliché
What is a Veteran: Beyond the Cliché is a short documentary film. It is a reflective exploration of military identity. It challenges the notion of ‘Mad, Bad and Sad’ as stereotypical descriptors of the veteran community. It is part of the Military Afterlives Project at the University of Exeter. The team are Sarah Bulmer, Caroline Micklewight and myself.
Reliving History
Reliving History is a BBC Radio 4 – Sideways and Podcast narrated by the bestselling author Mathew Syed. It explores profound ideas that shape our lives through stories. The episode I was involved with was called Reliving History. It was part of Pick of The Week: Sean Cooney following the broadcast. It is also available on Apple Podcasts.
War Song
This song is performed as the finale in the play Minefield. It uses the artefacts of war to reimagine the lyrical content and narrative thread of the lyrics in the song. It is a piece that confronts the raw realities of conflict with the question, “Have you ever killed anybody?” The completely lyrics to the highly emotive are available here.
Argentine Press Interview
This is an interview shown on Infobae in Argentina. The interview took place after one of many visits to Argentine secondary school during the many times the play performed in Argentina. There are many articles about the play in the Argentine press. They include a very poignant letter I wrote to the Argentine veterans on April 2nd.
